RBF's merger with Mathias, Barnes & Henshaw in November 2008 added Roy M. Henshaw, MBA, CPA as a partner. In addition to his broad base of business and accounting experience, Roy brings to the firm unique experience in one industry – agriculture.
Raised in dairy farming, Roy's family roots in the agriculture business go back four generations. As with most family businesses, Roy grew up learning the ins and outs of farming businesses, but he aspired to be a counselor to businesses of all types. He entered Bentley University where he graduated with a degree in accounting, then went on to receive an MBA from Western New England College.Although his practice today reflects a broad range of business categories, agricultural entities (fruit and produce, livestock, equestrian, dairy, food distribution) remain a strong focus.
“Their needs are very similar to most other businesses – accounting, valuation, estate and succession planning, regulatory advice, start-up issues, the whole gamut,” he says. “It certainly fosters a greater sense of trust when these clients know that I have actual agricultural tradition in my blood.” Agriculture is a complex business model and requires years of experience to serve it successfully. It has advanced dramatically with tax law changes and technology.
Roy is a member of the Massachusetts Farm Bureau and the Massachusetts Arborists Association. He is also a member of the American Institute of CPA's, Massachusetts Society of CPA's, Massachusetts Association of Independent Public Accountants, National Society of Public Accountants, and National Association of Tax Professionals.
