Composing
and arranging music for small ensembles are as much a part of Ralph
Rosen's long musical career as are his many years performing as
a versatile jazz and blues drummer and harmonica player. Many also
know him as the drummer for the Bruce Katz Band, and, for the last
17 years, as manager of the media center at the Berklee College
of Music. Described by critics and players as "genre-defying"
and "profoundly original," his work pays homage to jazz
luminaries Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and Wayne
Shorter, all of whom have deeply influenced his soulful, reflective
compositions.
The intro to Ralph's tune, "Waltz Ralph"
(ASCAP), provides the backdrop to the animated photo segment accessed
from the "Human Capital" page of this site. The tune is
fresh, energetic, optimistic, and many layered... capturing many
of the qualities of RBB's corporate culture.
